The Guidance and Career Education Program is a vital and integral part of the secondary school program. The goals of the Guidance and Career Education Program are outlined in the policy document entitled Choices Into Action: Guidance and Career Education Program Policy for Elementary and Secondary Schools, 1999. The content of the program is organized into three areas of learning:

1. student development (i.e. the development of habits and skills necessary for learning)
2. interpersonal development (i.e. the development of knowledge and skills needed in getting along with others
3. career development (i.e. the development of knowledge and skills needed for setting short and long term goals and for planning the future).
