We have enjoyed meeting you and sharing with you all of the wonderful activities and opportunities available here for you in Grade 9 and beyond. Until June we hope you will continue to strive to reach your potential in Grade 8 and take advantage of all of the opportunities that come with being the senior students of your school. Open House Information Our Grade 8 Open House will be held before Christmas . Please remember to pick-up your folder with useful information. You can register at that time. Gr. 8 students who reside in the GSS Boundary and attend Casitor, Central, Lakeview, Grand Avenue, Nelles, Smith, and Smithville: We enjoyed welcoming you to GSS!! You will each receive your own “Access Card” and letter from Grimsby Secondary School to take home to your parents. This letter will help guide parents to view your selections. Please take time to review: 1. the pathway/stream you have chosen for your 5 core subjects 2. review your teacher’s recommendations (a blue dot will appear when your choice is not matching your teacher’s recommendation) 3. select 3 elective courses 4. select an alternative (that could be used in place of your 3rd elective if a conflict arises) Once you feel you have chosen what best meets your needs push the submit button and your selections will print. Please make every effort to return the signed form within a week to your Homeroom Teacher. The letter distributed through your elementary school is available as an attachment below. Gr. 8 students who reside in the GSS Boundary and attend an elementary school outside of DSBN: 1. Complete a "Student Registration Form" 2. Complete a paper version of the Gr. 9 “External Intention Sheet” 3. If possible please submit both forms to our Guidance Department before February 1st. Gr. 8 students who reside OUTSIDE of the GSS Boundary, attend a DSBN elementary school and wish to attend GSS: 1. Must still register with their boundary-designated secondary school 2. Obtain and complete an "Alternate School Request Form" (available from the DSBN elementary school) 3. Complete a paper version of the Gr. 9 “External Intention Sheet” for GSS 4. Parent must be aware of their responsibility to provide transportation for their child to GSS (transportation is provided for students in the Extended French Program) 5. Submit all forms to Gr. 8 homeroom teacher or elementary school principal before January 8th. Gr. 8 students who reside OUTSIDE of the GSS Boundary and attend an elementary school outside of DSBN: 1. Must still register with their boundary-designated DSBN secondary school and will need to complete the Intention Sheet for that secondary school 2. Parent must be aware of their responsibility to provide transportation for their child to GSS (transportation is provided for students in the Extended French Program) 3. Obtain and complete an "Alternate School Request Form" (available from their boundary-designated DSBN elementary school) 4. Complete a Gr. 9 “External Intention Sheet” 5. Complete a "Student Registration Form" 6. Please contact the Vice Principal (905.945.5416 at extension 62402) to arrange an interview and bring your birth certificate and latest report card to the Intake Interview. 7. Submit all forms to the boundary designated DSBN elementary school before February 1st if possible. |
